Energy Valorization of Fine Screenings from a Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant

The aim of this paper was to evaluate the characteristics and energy potential for methane production fine screenings collected from primary stage a municipal wastewater treatment plant, assess impact on properties oxygen demand aqueous effluents downstream sieves. Commercial filter bags with sieve openings 3000, 1250, 1000, 300 μm were used collection following measurement their biochemical potential. It revealed that solid fractions sieves large size presented high net capacity exceeding 900 mL/g VS, but gas rate rather slow, requiring long time reach final value. However, cumulative containing particles larger than had lower production, about 700 faster rate, resulting in almost 80% total volume released 30 days. Aqueous samples decreasing organic matter content by reduced requirements aeration oxygen. installation existing plants, therefore, may be beneficial due enhancement biogas reduction consumption activated sludge process.
